Adaptive Cohabitation Concept in Rotterdam
Space is becoming scare, property is for the rich, what can be questioned in the way we share things?
According to WRI research, the world will have to close a gap of 56% between the amount of food available today and that required by 2050. We should be able to see where and in what season we are if we look at our plate, a case that can be handled differently in cohabitation.
Next to the environmental advantages that coliving comes with, a wide spectrum of ethnic backgrounds can be the right circumstance to cultivate food in a new way, with a group of people, the basic lifeline becomes the centre of connection. Food has the ability to bond beyond ages, concepts and practices. It reflects our own values, history and identity and helps us to discover other attitudes and rituals.
In this hunt to an effect-full usage of coliving the proposal focusses on the vacant Citrus Veiling in the M4H area in Rotterdam. An area that can be perceived as a clean sleeve on how to organise urban life due to the fact that it is the only place left close to the center that issn’t fully build on. This makers district breeds food-related initiatives such as the Voedselbank, Floating Farm and the Voedseltuin and is fruitful ground for potential collaborations.
It could involve foodstudies, learning about fermentation, cultivating fungi, vertical gardening, traditional methods and reducing food waste.

Aim
In numerous ways acids is the overall topic that sews the symbolic arguments together, such as the history (citrus auction), in a physical way on the facade (patina), the food program, (preservation of food and experimenting with new techniques), geographic features (materials in the surrounding harbor)
